FlexRay Controller IP
Design IP
Overview

SmartDV’s FlexRay Controller IP is a silicon-proven solution designed for high-speed, fault-tolerant, and deterministic communication in automotive and industrial systems. Fully compliant with the FlexRay protocol specification, it supports time-triggered data exchange, making it ideal for safety-critical applications such as ADAS, powertrain, and chassis control.

The IP core is developed with ISO 26262 functional safety support, enabling integration into ASIL-compliant systems for automotive designs that demand high reliability and safety certification. Designed for flexibility, the IP core is highly configurable to meet specific design requirements, supporting both ASIC and FPGA implementations while optimizing for area, power, and performance. Its robust architecture offers support for single- and dual-channel configurations, flexible buffer management, and seamless integration with external bus guardians.

FlexRay Controller
Benefits
  • Reliable and Deterministic Communication – Provides full-duplex operation with complete FlexRay transmitter and receiver functionality for time- and event-triggered communication in safety-critical automotive systems
  • Flexible Network Support – Supports single-channel and dual-channel configurations with data rates of 2.5, 5, and 10 Mbit/s, including user-defined non-standard bitrates
  • Robust Frame Handling – Enables generation and processing of all frame types, including static and dynamic frames, ensuring predictable and efficient message scheduling
  • Advanced Error Detection – Detects syntax and content errors such as frame ID, header CRC, CRC, oversize/undersize, cycle count, startup, sync, and null frame errors across both static and dynamic segments
  • Integrated Monitoring and Control – Includes monitor mode for passive observation, cluster wake-up, and startup support for complete network bring-up and supervision
  • Easy System Integration – Supports transmit and receive commands for direct data handling and integrates seamlessly with AXI, AHB, and APB system interfaces for simplified SoC adoption
