SmartDV’s CAN Controller IP is a silicon-proven, fully featured Controller Area Network solution purpose-built for SoC designs requiring reliable, high-speed automotive and industrial serial bus communication across body electronics, powertrain, ADAS, zonal architecture, and industrial control applications. Fully compliant with ISO 11898-1:2024 and ISO 11898-2:2024, covering all three CAN protocol generations, CAN CC (Classic), CAN FD, and CAN XL, and optimized for SAE J1939 and AutoSAR, it delivers complete CAN transmit and receive functionality supporting Classic CAN at up to 1 Mbps, CAN FD at up to 5 Mbps, and CAN XL at up to 20 Mbps with payloads up to 2048 bytes.
Designed for the demanding requirements of next-generation automotive zonal networks, the IP supports 11-bit and 29-bit identifiers for Classic CAN and CAN FD, the CAN XL 11-bit priority field with separate 32-bit acceptance field for addressing, all frame types including Data, Remote, Error, and Overload frames, automatic remote frame response, single and dual message acceptance filtering, and TEC/REC error count registers. Its interrupt support for each CAN bus error and arbitration loss with detailed bit position, programmable clock output, single-shot transmission, self-reception of own messages, and comprehensive error detection covering Bit, Stuff, CRC, Form, and Acknowledgement errors give automotive SoC teams a production-tested, spec-complete CAN controller ready for the transition from legacy CAN networks to CAN XL-based backbone architectures.
Built for design flexibility and silicon efficiency, the IP core is highly configurable for both ASIC and FPGA implementations, with a strong focus on area optimization, power management, and peak performance. Its parameterized architecture and clean host interface enable fast integration and confident design bring-up across a wide range of automotive process nodes and target applications.
