Overview

SmartDV’s LIN Controller IP is a silicon-proven, fully featured Local Interconnect Network solution purpose-built for automotive SoC applications requiring reliable, low-cost serial communication between electronic control units. Fully compliant with LIN 2.2A and ISO 17987, it delivers complete master and slave functionality over a single-wire bus at data rates up to 20 kbps, making it an ideal choice for body electronics, seat control, lighting, HVAC, and other cost-sensitive automotive subsystems.

Designed to address the full breadth of LIN network requirements, the IP supports all LIN frame types including Unconditional, Event-Triggered, Sporadic, and Diagnostic frames, alongside cluster wake-up and sleep management for power-efficient operation. Its self-synchronization capability in slave nodes eliminates the need for an external quartz or ceramic resonator, significantly reducing system cost and board complexity in automotive designs.

Built for design flexibility and silicon efficiency, the IP core is highly configurable for both ASIC and FPGA implementations, with a strong focus on area optimization, power management, and peak performance. Its configurable master/slave architecture and programmable data rate and clock frequency options enable fast integration and confident design bring-up across a wide range of automotive process nodes and target applications.

SmartDV also offers ASIL-ready variants to meet ISO 26262 functional safety requirements, making this IP well-suited for safety-critical automotive power and sensor control applications where deterministic behavior and robust diagnostic capability are essential.
