Overview

SmartDV’s Ethernet Multi-Gig MAC IP is a silicon-proven, fully featured Media Access Controller solution purpose-built for SoC designs requiring a single, scalable MAC architecture spanning the full range of modern Ethernet speeds from 2.5 Gbps through 800 Gbps across data center, AI accelerator, and hyperscale networking applications. Fully compliant with IEEE 802.3-2022 and IEEE 802.3df-2024, it delivers unified MAC functionality across 2.5G, 5G, 10G, 25G, 40G, 50G, 100G, 200G, 400G, and 800G speed grades, giving SoC teams a single MAC core that scales across the entire modern Ethernet portfolio without requiring separate MAC implementations per speed.

Designed to minimize verification and integration overhead for SoC designs supporting multiple Ethernet port speeds, the IP implements a common MAC control and data frame architecture across all supported rates, VLAN tagged and Priority tagged frame generation, Pause frame detection and generation for flow control, Jumbo frame support, and full FCS generation and checking. Its consistent interface to the full family of SmartDV Ethernet PCS IP cores across every supported speed grade, combined with independent TX and RX Maximum Transmission Unit configuration, gives networking and data center SoC teams a production-tested, spec-complete Multi-Gig MAC implementation for flexible, future-proof port speed configuration.

Built for design flexibility and silicon efficiency, the IP core is highly configurable for both ASIC and FPGA implementations, with a strong focus on area optimization, power management, and peak performance. Its parameterized speed mode architecture and clean host interface enable fast integration across a wide range of data center and networking process nodes.
