Overview

SmartDV’s Ethernet 10BASE-T1L PCS IP is a fully featured Physical Coding Sublayer solution purpose-built for SoC designs requiring long-reach, single-pair Ethernet connectivity across industrial automation, process control, building automation, and intrinsically safe field instrumentation applications. Fully compliant with IEEE 802.3cg-2019 Clause 146, it delivers complete 10BASE-T1L PCS functionality supporting 10 Mbps full-duplex communication over a single balanced twisted pair at distances up to 1 km, extending Ethernet connectivity far beyond the 100-meter limitation of conventional copper Ethernet.

Designed for the demanding reach, retrofit, and intrinsic safety requirements of modern industrial and process automation networks, the IP supports full-duplex point-to-point operation, optional increased transmit level for enhanced noise tolerance and extended cable reach, optional Energy Efficient Ethernet with Low Power Idle, and compatibility with Power over Data Line (PoDL) per Clause 104 for combined data and power delivery over a single cable pair. Its foundation as the physical layer basis for the APL (Advanced Physical Layer) process automation standard and compatibility with PROFINET, Modbus, BACnet, KNX, and LON protocols give industrial and process automation SoC teams a production-ready 10BASE-T1L PCS implementation for large-scale sensor and field device networks.

Built for design flexibility and silicon efficiency, the IP core is highly configurable for both ASIC and FPGA implementations, with a strong focus on area optimization, power management, and peak performance. Its parameterized PCS architecture and clean host interface enable fast integration across a wide range of industrial and process automation process nodes.
