Overview

SmartDV’s SMBus Master IP is a silicon-proven, fully featured System Management Bus solution purpose-built for SoC designs requiring reliable, standards-compliant communication with power management ICs, temperature sensors, battery monitors, and other SMBus-compatible devices across server, data center, automotive, and embedded applications. Fully compliant with SMBus v3.3.1, it delivers complete master-side SMBus functionality with support for all command code and non-command code protocols, Address Resolution Protocol, SMB Alert and Suspend signal handling, and Packet Error Checking — making it a production-ready system management bus controller for the most demanding server and embedded power management designs.

Designed to give SoC teams a production-tested, spec-complete SMBus master implementation, the IP supports both HCI and non-HCI interface options, the full command code protocol set including Write/Read Byte/Word, Process Call, Block Write/Read, Block Write-Block Read Process Call, Write/Read 32, and Write/Read 64, alongside non-command code protocols including Quick Command, Send Byte, and Receive Byte. Its I2C read/write command support and comprehensive SMBus protocol coverage give system management teams a versatile master controller that integrates cleanly with the widest range of SMBus peripheral devices.

Built for design flexibility and silicon efficiency, the IP core is highly configurable for both ASIC and FPGA implementations, with a strong focus on area optimization, power management, and peak performance. Its parameterized architecture, dual HCI and non-HCI interface options, and clean host interface enable fast integration and confident design bring-up across a wide range of process nodes and system management applications.
