Overview

SmartDV’s RS-FEC (73,69) IP is a fully featured Reed-Solomon Forward Error Correction solution purpose-built for SoC designs requiring reliable, hardware-accelerated error correction across cable broadband, DOCSIS, and high-speed serial interface applications. Implementing the RS(73,69) algorithm over GF(2⁸) with 8-bit symbols and 32-bit parity generation, it delivers compact, low-latency symbol error correction and detection through a fully pipelined architecture optimized for the throughput and reliability demands of cable modem and broadband access SoC designs.

RS(73,69) provides a lightweight yet effective FEC solution for cable broadband systems requiring both error correction and error detection capabilities within a compact codeword structure. Its fully pipelined implementation covering parity generation, syndrome calculation, Berlekamp’s algorithm, Chien search, and error correction gives cable and broadband SoC teams a spec-accurate FEC block that can be integrated independently wherever RS(73,69) error correction and detection is required.

Built for design flexibility and silicon efficiency, the IP core is highly configurable for both ASIC and FPGA implementations, with a strong focus on area optimization, power management, and peak performance. Its compact pipelined architecture, bit locker mechanism, and clean host interface enable fast integration and confident design bring-up across a wide range of process nodes and target applications.
