Overview

SmartDV’s RS-FEC (240,214) IP is a fully featured Reed-Solomon Forward Error Correction solution purpose-built for SoC designs requiring reliable, hardware-accelerated error correction across automotive SerDes interfaces and other high-speed serial applications. Compliant with the Automotive SerDes Alliance (ASA) Motion Link v2.1 specification, it implements the RS(240,214) algorithm over GF(2⁸) with 8-bit symbols and 208-bit parity generation, delivering robust multi-symbol error correction through a fully pipelined architecture optimized for the stringent latency and reliability demands of automotive camera, display, and infotainment SerDes systems operating at speeds up to 16 Gbps.

With 26 parity symbols per codeword, RS(240,214) provides significantly stronger error correction capability than lighter ASA FEC variants, making it well-suited for automotive SerDes deployments over longer or noisier channels where higher correction headroom is essential for meeting functional safety BER requirements. Its fully pipelined implementation covering parity generation, syndrome calculation, Berlekamp’s algorithm, Chien search, and error correction gives automotive SoC teams a spec-accurate FEC block that delivers the reliability demanded by safety-critical vehicle camera, sensor, and display connectivity systems.

Built for design flexibility and silicon efficiency, the IP core is highly configurable for both ASIC and FPGA implementations, with a strong focus on area optimization, power management, and peak performance. Its compact pipelined architecture, bit locker mechanism, and clean host interface enable fast integration and confident design bring-up across a wide range of automotive process nodes and target applications.
