SmartDV’s SGPIO Target IP is a silicon-proven, fully featured Serial General Purpose Input/Output bus solution purpose-built for SoC designs requiring reliable, standards-compliant enclosure management communication as a storage backplane or drive enclosure target device. Fully compliant with SFF-8485 Revision 0.7, it delivers complete SGPIO target functionality with serial-to-parallel LED signal conversion, operating frequencies from 32 Hz to 100 kHz, providing a proven, production-ready backplane-side enclosure management interface for SAS and SATA storage system designs.
Designed as the natural backplane-side complement to an SGPIO initiator, the IP converts incoming serial SGPIO bit streams from the host bus adapter into parallel LED control signals for drive activity, fault, and locate indication across storage enclosure backplanes. Its support for Normal and General Purpose operating modes, rising edge transmit and falling edge sample timing, and a comprehensive register set covering configuration, receive, transmit, and general purpose registers gives storage backplane teams a production-tested, spec-complete SGPIO target implementation that integrates cleanly into SAS and SATA enclosure management designs.
Built for design flexibility and silicon efficiency, the IP core is highly configurable for both ASIC and FPGA implementations, with a strong focus on area optimization, power management, and peak performance. Its parameterized architecture and clean host interface enable fast integration and confident design bring-up across a wide range of enterprise storage process nodes and target applications.
