SmartDV’s SGPIO Initiator IP is a silicon-proven, fully featured Serial General Purpose Input/Output bus solution purpose-built for SoC designs requiring reliable, low-speed enclosure management communication between host bus adapters and storage backplanes across enterprise storage, data center, and embedded RAID applications. Fully compliant with SFF-8485 Revision 0.7, it delivers complete SGPIO initiator functionality supporting up to 256 hard disk drives with operating frequencies from 32 Hz to 100 kHz, providing a proven, production-ready enclosure management interface for SAS and SATA storage system designs.

Designed to address the full breadth of SGPIO initiator requirements, the IP supports Normal and General Purpose operating modes, dual blink generators for flexible LED pattern control, individually controllable SGPIO LOAD behavior, configurable SClock high and low time, and a comprehensive register set covering configuration, receive, transmit, and general purpose registers. Its error detection and interrupt handling capabilities give storage SoC teams a production-tested, spec-complete SGPIO initiator that integrates cleanly into the most demanding SAS and SATA enclosure management designs.
