Overview

SmartDV’s Safe-by-Wire Plus (SBWP) Slave IP is a fully featured automotive occupant safety bus solution purpose-built for SoC designs requiring reliable, safety-critical communication as a deployable device, squib controller, or impact sensor on the Safe-by-Wire Plus bus. Fully compliant with Safe-by-Wire Plus v2.0, it delivers complete slave-side SBWP functionality over a bi-directional two-wire bus with integrated power distribution, supporting deployment buses, sensor buses, and combined sensor/deployment bus configurations for comprehensive occupant safety peripheral integration.

Designed for the stringent safety and real-time requirements of automotive airbag and restraint systems, the IP supports variable bus speeds from 20 kbps to 160 kbps with self-clocking slave operation, flexible bus topologies including bus, tree, ring, and mixed configurations, and multi-level protection against inadvertent deployment including analog safing, energy reserve capacitor charging verification, and dual deploy switch control. Its support for small hold-up capacitors, optional interrupt capabilities for smart impact sensors, real-time recovery from single-point bus shorts, and CRC error detection give automotive safety SoC teams a spec-complete SBWP slave implementation designed for the most demanding functional safety applications.

Built for design flexibility and silicon efficiency, the IP core is highly configurable for both ASIC and FPGA implementations, with a strong focus on area optimization, power management, and peak performance. Its parameterized architecture and clean host interface enable fast integration and confident design bring-up across a wide range of automotive safety process nodes and target applications.
