SmartDV’s Safe-by-Wire Plus (SBWP) Master IP is a fully featured automotive occupant safety bus solution purpose-built for SoC designs requiring reliable, safety-critical communication between restraint control modules and deployable devices, squibs, and impact sensors in modern vehicle safety systems. Fully compliant with Safe-by-Wire Plus v2.0, it delivers complete master-side SBWP functionality over a bi-directional two-wire bus with integrated power distribution, supporting deployment buses, sensor buses, and combined sensor/deployment bus configurations for comprehensive occupant safety system integration.
Designed to address the stringent safety and real-time requirements of automotive airbag and restraint systems, the IP supports variable bus speeds from 20 kbps to 160 kbps, flexible bus topologies including bus, tree, ring, and mixed configurations, parallel and daisy-chain system architectures with bus lengths up to 40 meters, and multi-level protection against inadvertent deployment including analog safing, energy reserve capacitor charging verification, and dual deploy switch control. Its babbling-idiot protection, real-time recovery from single-point bus shorts, CRC error detection, and optional multi-master operation give automotive safety SoC teams a spec-complete SBWP master implementation designed for the most demanding functional safety applications.
Built for design flexibility and silicon efficiency, the IP core is highly configurable for both ASIC and FPGA implementations, with a strong focus on area optimization, power management, and peak performance. Its parameterized architecture and clean host interface enable fast integration and confident design bring-up across a wide range of automotive safety process nodes and target applications.
