Overview

SmartDV’s NFC Controller IP is a silicon-proven, fully featured Near Field Communication Reader/Writer solution purpose-built for SoC designs requiring reliable, standards-compliant contactless reading and writing of NFC tags, smart cards, and other proximity devices across mobile payment, access control, IoT, and consumer electronics applications. Fully compliant with ISO/IEC 18092:2023, ISO/IEC 14443, ISO/IEC 15693, and ECMA-340 standards, it delivers complete PCD Reader/Writer functionality at the 13.56 MHz carrier frequency with support for all four NFC data rates from 106 kbps to 848 kbps across both active and passive communication modes.

Designed for the demanding requirements of modern NFC Reader/Writer applications, the IP supports Type A and Type B operation, multi-target activation for simultaneous management of multiple contactless devices, and chaining for transmission of information exceeding a single block. Its comprehensive configurable timing architecture, robust error detection across seven error types, and automatic retransmission of corrupted messages give SoC teams a production-tested, spec-complete NFC Reader/Writer controller ready for the most demanding contactless application environments.

Built for design flexibility and silicon efficiency, the IP core is highly configurable for both ASIC and FPGA implementations, with a strong focus on area optimization, power management, and peak performance. Its DFT-ready architecture, integrated interrupt logic, and comprehensive AFE control interface enable fast integration and confident design bring-up across a wide range of process nodes and contactless Reader/Writer applications.
