SmartDV’s H.264 Encoder IP is a fully featured Advanced Video Coding encoder solution purpose-built for SoC designs requiring reliable, standards-compliant video encoding across consumer electronics, broadcast, security, and embedded video applications. Fully compliant with ITU-T H.264 | ISO/IEC 14496-10 (MPEG-4 Part 10 AVC), it delivers complete H.264/AVC encoder functionality supporting video resolutions up to 3840×2160 at 60 fps (4K60), matching the mainstream performance ceiling of current commercial H.264 hardware encoder implementations at profile Level 5.2.

Designed to handle the full breadth of H.264 encoder requirements, the IP supports both inter-prediction with macroblock sizes of 16×16, 16×8, 8×16, and 8×8, and intra-prediction with macroblock sizes of 16×16, 8×8, and 4×4, profile levels up to 5.2, and 9-bit and 10-bit internal encoding precision with 8-bit and 10-bit output bitstream generation. Its support for I, P, B, SI, and SP slice types, complete 4:4:4, 4:2:2, and 4:2:0 chroma format coverage, both VBR and CBR encoding modes with output up to 240 Mbit/s, optional advanced thresholding of quantized transform coefficients, and run-time tunable operation for decoder compatibility trade-offs give broadcast, consumer, and embedded SoC teams a spec-complete H.264/AVC encoder implementation.

Built for design flexibility and silicon efficiency, the IP core is highly configurable for both ASIC and FPGA implementations, with a strong focus on area optimization, power management, and peak performance.
