Overview

SmartDV’s FC-NVMe Verification IP is a comprehensive solution for verifying NVMe over Fibre Channel, the INCITS T11 standard enabling native NVMe command transport over existing Fibre Channel fabrics for low-latency, high-throughput SSD access without SCSI translation overhead. Fully compliant with the FC-NVMe standard as defined by the INCITS T11 committee and FC-NVMe-2, and built on the complete Fibre Channel transport stack, it supports complete verification of FC-NVMe Initiator and Target components across NVMe queue pair model, NVMe command and completion queue semantics, FC-NVMe frame mapping, LS (Link Service) commands for NVMe association management, the NVME Information Unit format, error detection and recovery, and coexistence with legacy FCP-SCSI traffic on the same FC fabric.

SmartDV’s FC-NVMe VIP supports UVM, SystemVerilog, and Verilog, and integrates seamlessly into diverse verification environments. It is simulator-independent and compatible with all leading EDA simulators, providing flexibility across simulation platforms.

With complete NVMe Admin and I/O queue verification, NVMe namespace discovery, FC-NVMe association establishment and teardown, multi-queue out-of-order completion, built-in functional coverage, and a complete test suite, SmartDV’s FC-NVMe VIP enables verification teams to thoroughly validate FC-NVMe interface designs for next-generation enterprise HBAs, all-flash storage arrays, and any FC SAN infrastructure migrating from FCP-SCSI to native NVMe semantics for high-performance flash workloads.

Benefits
  • Full FC-NVMe Initiator and Target Support – Provides complete FC-NVMe Initiator and Target component verification across NVMe queue pair model with Admin queues and I/O queues, NVMe command submission and completion queue semantics, FC-NVMe NVME Information Unit format, and complete FC transport layer for NVMe payload delivery.
  • FC-NVMe Association and Discovery Coverage – Supports LS Link Service commands for FC-NVMe association establishment and teardown including NVME_PRLI and NVME_PRLO, NVMe namespace and controller discovery, and all defined FC-NVMe discovery service operations.
  • Multi-Queue and Out-of-Order Completion Coverage – Supports multiple NVMe I/O queue pairs for parallel command execution, out-of-order NVMe completion across queue pairs, NVMe command arbitration, and all defined NVMe Admin commands for controller management and configuration.
  • FCP-SCSI Coexistence Coverage – Supports FC-NVMe and FCP-SCSI traffic coexistence on the same Fibre Channel fabric, enabling verification of mixed-protocol environments where both SCSI-based and NVMe-based storage is accessed through a single FC HBA.
  • Comprehensive Error Detection and Recovery – Supports error detection and recovery for FC transport errors, NVMe command timeout and abort handling, FC-NVMe association loss recovery, and all defined error scenarios for robust FC-NVMe fault tolerance verification.
  • Complete Verification Infrastructure – Provides a full test suite covering all FC-NVMe and FC-NVMe-2 specification features, built-in functional coverage analysis, constraints randomization, and comprehensive notification of all protocol and timing violations.
