SmartDV’s DisplayPort OUT Adapter IP is a fully featured USB4-to-DisplayPort de-tunneling solution purpose-built for SoC designs requiring seamless DisplayPort video output from USB Type-C connectors in docking stations, external monitors, hubs, and AR/VR display endpoints. Compliant with VESA DisplayPort Alt Mode 2.0 and USB4 v2.0, it sits at the display-facing egress point of a USB4 Router, reconstructing the tunneled DisplayPort video stream carried across the USB4 fabric back into a native DisplayPort signal and driving it out over a physical DP link to the connected monitor, enabling up to 80 Gbps of DisplayPort video bandwidth over a single USB-C connector.
Designed to give USB-C ecosystem SoC teams a production-ready display output endpoint, the IP implements DP OUT Adapter protocol de-mapping to reconstruct the native DisplayPort byte stream from tunneled USB4 packets, drives Main Link training on the physical DP link to the connected display, and reads back the display’s DisplayPort Configuration Data (DPCD) and EDID, forwarding that capability information upstream through the tunnel so the DisplayPort source can correctly negotiate resolution, refresh rate, and color depth. Support for multiple independent DP OUT Adapters within a single USB4 Router enables multi-monitor docking and hub designs, with full alignment to DisplayPort 2.1 UHBR10 and UHBR20 speeds matching USB4 Gen 2 and Gen 3 bit rates and encoding.
Built for design flexibility and silicon efficiency, the IP core is highly configurable for both ASIC and FPGA implementations, with a strong focus on area optimization, power management, and peak performance. Its parameterized tunnel architecture and clean host interface enable fast integration across a wide range of process nodes and target applications.
