Configuration-over-Ethernet (COE) IP
Design IP
Overview

SmartDV’s Configuration-over-Ethernet (CoE) IP enables remote device configuration and control over standard Ethernet networks, simplifying system design and reducing the need for additional physical interfaces. Ideal for embedded and industrial applications, the IP core supports efficient communication between host systems and target devices using Ethernet as the configuration backbone.

Designed for flexibility, the IP core is highly configurable to meet specific design requirements, supporting both ASIC and FPGA implementations while optimizing for area, power, and performance. It helps accelerate development cycles and enables seamless integration into existing Ethernet-based infrastructure.

Benefits
  • Remote Configuration Capability – Enables seamless register configuration of SoC or FPGA over standard Ethernet interface, eliminating the need for JTAG or SPI access
  • Flexible Protocol Handling – Supports UDP-based command-response mechanism for lightweight and efficient configuration control
  • Custom Address Map Support – Easily adaptable to user-defined register maps and address ranges for full flexibility
  • Low Resource Utilization – Optimized implementation ensures minimal area footprint, making it ideal for constrained designs
  • High-Speed Communication – Designed to operate over 1G/10G Ethernet for rapid and reliable configuration transactions
  • Easy Integration – Interfaces with internal control registers via standard bus protocols (e.g., APB, AXI4-Lite) for quick system bring-up
Compliance and Compatibility
  • Designed for interoperability with standard Ethernet MAC and PHY implementations
  • Compatible with UDP/IP protocols as defined in IETF RFC 768
  • Compatible with all major EDA synthesis, simulation, and linting flows
