Overview

SmartDV’s Ethernet Up to 800G Synthesizable Transactor is a fully featured, multi-rate Ethernet bus model purpose-built for hardware emulation and FPGA prototyping environments requiring fast, accurate, and highly configurable MAC and PCS layer behavior during pre-silicon validation across the complete Ethernet speed spectrum. Fully compliant with IEEE 802.3, including 802.3ba, 802.3bj, 802.3bs, and 802.3df, it delivers complete TX/RX functionality from legacy 1G interfaces through 800G, giving validation teams a single, drop-in synthesizable Ethernet transactor that spans the full range of Ethernet generations used in modern data center, networking, and AI interconnect SoC designs.

Designed for the speed and visibility demands of emulation and FPGA prototyping rather than ASIC tape-out, the transactor emphasizes fast bring-up, fine-grained controllability, and on-the-fly protocol checking over area or power optimization. It supports MAC control and data frames, VLAN and Priority tagged frame generation, pause frame detection and generation, jumbo frames, the full range of MII variants (MII, RMII, SMII, GMII, XGMII, XLGMII, CGMII), serial and backplane interfaces (SGMII, QSGMII, USGMII, XAUI, RXAUI, KR/KR2/KR4/KR8/KR10/KR16 backplane variants), and complete FEC, scrambling, and clause 73/37 auto-negotiation across every supported rate, enabling validation teams to exercise corner-case Ethernet behavior that is difficult to reach with production RTL alone.

Built for fast compile times and efficient resource utilization on hardware emulation and FPGA prototyping platforms, the transactor is fully synthesizable and platform-independent, deploying without modification across any major emulation or prototyping environment. Its MDIO Master/Slave model per Clause 22 and Clause 45, IEEE 1588-2002/2008 timestamp support, and comprehensive TX/RX error insertion and detection at every protocol layer enable rapid deployment for early software bring-up and system-level validation across the complete 1G to 800G Ethernet speed range.
