Overview

SmartDV’s AVB MAC IP is a silicon-proven, fully featured Audio Video Bridging Ethernet MAC solution purpose-built for SoC designs requiring deterministic, time-synchronized Ethernet transport for professional audio, video, and automotive infotainment applications. Compliant with the IEEE 802.1 AVB suite including IEEE 802.3-2022, IEEE 1722, IEEE 802.1AS, IEEE 802.1Qav, IEEE 802.1BA, and IEEE 802.1Qat, it delivers complete AVB endpoint talker and listener functionality with per-port ingress and egress timestamping, traffic shaping, and SR Class A, B, and C stream reservation.

Designed to address the demanding timing and quality-of-service requirements of professional audio/video and automotive infotainment networks, the IP supports IEEE 802.1AS generalized Precision Time Protocol for AVB traffic synchronization, IEEE 1588 timestamping, IEEE 802.1Qav credit-based traffic shaping, IEEE 802.1CB frame replication and elimination, IEEE 802.1Qbb priority flow control, IEEE 802.1Q class-based FIFO management with 8 traffic classes, VLAN frame support, and IEEE 802.1BA AVB system QoS handling. Its cut-through support, TSN feature enable/disable, configurable Ethernet ports, per-port rate limiting, port-based VLAN, and in-house UNH compliance testing give AVB system teams a production-tested, spec-complete MAC implementation.

Built for design flexibility and silicon efficiency, the IP core is highly configurable for both ASIC and FPGA implementations. Its GMII/RGMII/MII physical interface support and tight integration with SmartDV Ethernet MAC across all speeds enable fast integration across a wide range of process nodes and target applications.
