Overview

SmartDV’s ARINC 825 Controller IP is a fully featured CAN-based avionics network solution purpose-built for SoC designs requiring reliable, standards-compliant avionics data communication using the Controller Area Network protocol adapted for aerospace applications. Compliant with ARINC 825, which defines the general standardization of CAN bus usage in airborne systems, it delivers complete ARINC 825 controller functionality for civil aviation applications including flight controls, landing gear systems, cabin management, and health monitoring across commercial aircraft designs.

Designed to address the avionics-specific requirements layered above the standard CAN protocol, the IP implements the complete ARINC 825 message structure including Node Service Protocol for network management, functional message addressing using CAN identifiers, time distribution, redundancy management, and the ARINC 825-specific higher-layer services that differentiate aviation CAN deployments from automotive or industrial CAN implementations. Its deterministic bus access gives avionics SoC teams a standards-compliant ARINC 825 controller suitable for flight-critical avionics network integration.

Built for design flexibility and silicon efficiency, the IP core is highly configurable for both ASIC and FPGA implementations, with a strong focus on area optimization, power management, and peak performance. Its parameterized architecture and clean host interface enable fast integration and confident design bring-up across a wide range of avionics process nodes.
