Overview

SmartDV’s SPI NAND Flash Verification IP is a comprehensive solution for verifying serial NAND flash memory interfaces, the low pin-count alternative to parallel NAND and SPI NOR flash that combines NAND storage density with a simple four-pin or six-pin serial peripheral interface for embedded systems, IoT devices, and cost-sensitive storage applications. Compliant with SPI NAND Flash specifications as defined by Micron, it supports complete verification of SPI NAND Flash Master and Slave components across single, dual, and quad mode operation in both command and data phases, automatic initialization after power-up with first page auto-load, software write protection with lock register, hardware write protection to freeze block protection bits, permanent block lock protection, page-based architecture with read page cache mode, and integrated ECC protection.

SmartDV’s SPI NAND Flash VIP supports UVM, SystemVerilog, and Verilog, and integrates seamlessly into diverse verification environments. It is simulator-independent and compatible with all leading EDA simulators, providing flexibility across simulation platforms.

With Set Feature and Get Feature command support, Read Unique ID and Read Parameter Page commands, block erase commands, a rich master command set, built-in functional coverage, and a complete test suite, SmartDV’s SPI NAND Flash VIP enables verification teams to thoroughly validate SPI NAND flash interface designs for IoT gateways, industrial controllers, firmware and data logging storage, OTA update storage, and any embedded application requiring NAND-class storage density with minimal pin count and board complexity.

Key Features
  • Full SPI NAND Flash Master and Slave Support – Provides complete SPI NAND Flash Master and Slave component verification with automatic initialization after power-up including first page auto-load to the cache register, a rich master command set covering all defined SPI NAND Flash operations, and callbacks in master, slave, and monitor for modifying and sampling data and commands on the SPI NAND Flash bus.
  • Single, Dual, and Quad Mode Coverage – Supports single, dual, and quad mode operation in both command phase and data phase, covering all defined I/O width configurations for read, program, and command transactions to verify the full range of SPI NAND Flash bandwidth scaling options.
  • Page Architecture and Read Operation Coverage – Supports Read Page Cache Mode for pipelined page access, Read Unique ID for device identification, Read Parameter Page for device capability discovery, and page-based architecture verification covering the data storage region and spare area used for ECC and bad block management metadata.
  • Program and Erase Coverage – Supports Program Load and Program Execute command sequences, Block Erase commands, and Set Feature and Get Feature commands for configuration register, block lock register, and ECC enable control across all defined SPI NAND Flash operating modes.
  • ECC and Data Integrity – Supports ECC protection covering internal error correction code generation during page write and verification during page read, with ECC status reporting through the status register for comprehensive data integrity verification across all supported page sizes and densities.
  • Security and Write Protection Coverage – Supports software write protection with lock register, hardware write protection to freeze Block Protection bits, and permanent block lock protection for complete SPI NAND Flash security and write protection verification across all defined protection levels.
  • Complete Verification Infrastructure – Provides a full test suite covering all SPI NAND Flash specification features, built-in functional coverage analysis, and notification of significant events including transactions, warnings, and protocol violations written to separate log files for detailed post-simulation analysis.
