SmartDV’s MIPI VGI (Virtual GPIO Interface) IP is a silicon-proven, fully featured MIPI Virtual GPIO Interface solution purpose-built for SoC designs requiring reliable, low-overhead bidirectional GPIO state exchange between application processors and peripheral devices across mobile, IoT, and automotive applications. Compliant with MIPI Virtual GPIO Interface v0.9, it delivers complete virtual GPIO functionality over a minimal 2-wire or optional 3-wire interface, replacing multiple dedicated GPIO lines with a single standardized serial interface for exchanging GPIO state information with minimal software overhead and negligible power and area impact.

Designed to address the GPIO proliferation challenge in modern multi-component mobile and IoT SoC designs, the IP supports wide-range clock frequency operation from sleep clock frequencies up to 78 MHz, dynamically switchable clock gears, programmable GPIO stream length, and robust physical interface failure detection under corner case conditions including power failures and watchdog timer bites that render standard bus-based communication unavailable. Its optional 3-wire VGI interface for lower transmission latency, within-specification transmission latency, and minimum software requirements give SoC teams a production-tested, spec-complete virtual GPIO implementation that eliminates dedicated GPIO routing complexity while maintaining reliable state communication under all operating conditions.

Built for design flexibility and silicon efficiency, the IP core is highly configurable for both ASIC and FPGA implementations, with a strong focus on area optimization, power management, and peak performance.
