Automotive SerDes (ASA) PCS
Design IP
Overview

SmartDV’s Automotive SerDes Alliance (ASA) PCS IP delivers a robust and efficient solution for high-speed data transmission in next-generation automotive systems. Fully compliant with ASA standards, it enables reliable, low-latency communication between automotive sensors, cameras, and ECUs, supporting the growing demands of ADAS and autonomous driving architectures.

Designed for flexibility, the IP core is highly configurable to meet specific design requirements, supporting both ASIC and FPGA implementations while optimizing for area, power, and performance. It supports advanced features such as lane alignment, deskew, and error correction, ensuring high signal integrity and interoperability across diverse SerDes ecosystems.

Benefits
  • Layered Architecture – Supports both PHY and Data Link layers, including scrambling/descrambling, RS-FEC, and clock recovery
  • Flexible Data Handling – Enables Application Stream Encapsulation (ASE) and Decapsulation (ASD) with multiplexing/demultiplexing of video, I2C, Ethernet, SPI, GPIO, eDP, I2S, and test streams
  • Advanced Link Management – Supports FOFA in both normal and enumerate modes, as well as time-division access and half-duplex PHY operation
  • Asymmetric Data Rates – Supports high-speed downlink (up to 16 Gbps) and low-speed uplink (>100 Mbps) with Inter Burst Gap (IBG) handling
  • Multi-Speed Operation – Scalable across multiple gears from 2 Gbps up to 16 Gbps
  • Robust Startup Sequences – Includes support for ASA startup phases: 1G, SGA, SGB, and SGC
  • Security & OAM Features – Implements link layer security, efficient key exchange, and full support for OAM (Operations, Administration, and Management)
  • Power Optimization – Light sleep mode enables duty cycling between active and disabled PHY states for reduced power consumption
  • Integrated Time Sync – Supports PTB (Precision Time Base) for time-sensitive applications
Compliance and Compatibility
  • Compliant with Automotive SerDes Alliance (ASA) specifications v1.0, v1.1, v2.0, and v2.1
  • Compatible with all major EDA synthesis, simulation, and linting flows
